1 Vegetable Baskets - Addition (Pages 64-65)
Rumi and Shami helped each other taking out vegetables from the field. Let's see how many vegetables they both took out altogether.
A. 7 tomatoes and 5 tomatoes altogether make 12 tomatoes.
Equation: 7 + 5 = 12
B. 9 carrots in one basket and 4 carrots in another basket.
Answer: They make 13 carrots altogether.
Equation: 9 + 4 = 13
C. 8 radishes in one basket and 8 radishes in another basket.
Answer: They make 16 radishes altogether.
Equation: 8 + 8 = 16
2 Addition with Beads (Ginladi) & Hopping (Pages 66-67)
Show how you can add these numbers on ginladi (bead string).
Method: Start at the first number, then count forward by the second number.
Hop and find the sum (Using Number Line).
8 + 5 = 13 (Start at 8, hop forward 5 steps)
13 + 3 = 16 (Start at 13, hop forward 3 steps)
12 + 6 = 18 (Start at 12, hop forward 6 steps)
3 Add in Your Own Way - Word Problems (Pages 67-68)
A. Sapna has 12 coloured pencils and Gauri has 6 coloured pencils. How many pencils do they have in all?
Sapna counted 12 and 6 more and got 18. (12 + 6 = 18).
Gauri did it differently by breaking the numbers:
- 12 + 6
- = 10 + 2 + 6
- = 10 + 8
- = 18
B. Aman has 8 laddoos and Charanjeet brought 6 laddoos. How many laddoos are there in all?
Answer: 8 + 6 = 14 laddoos.
C. Sheena has 12 bangles, she got 6 more from her sister. How many bangles does she have now?
Answer: 12 + 6 = 18 bangles.

Anjali and Renu are playing by hopping on a number line.
Anjali jumps 2 steps ahead from 6: 6 + 2 = 8
Renu jumps 7 steps back from 15: 15 - 7 = 8

6 Problem Stories - Word Problems (Page 71)
A. A potter had 9 diyas. He sold 5 diyas. Then he made 7 more diyas. How many diyas does he have now?
First subtract the sold diyas: 9 - 5 = 4
Then add the new ones: 4 + 7 = 11
Answer: 11 diyas.
B. 6 children sit in the bus at the first stop. At the second stop, 8 more children board the bus. 7 children get down at the third bus stop. How many children are there in the bus at the third stop?
Add the boarding children: 6 + 8 = 14
Subtract the ones who got down: 14 - 7 = 7
Answer: 7 children.
C. There are 18 seats in a bus. If 9 children are already sitting in it, how many more children can sit inside the bus?
Calculation: 18 - 9 = 9
Answer: 9 more children.
D. Kuljeet got 14 toffees in her box. She shared few toffees with her friends. She was left with 6 toffees. How many toffees did she share with her friends?
Calculation: 14 - 6 = 8
Answer: She shared 8 toffees.
E. Raman got 12 bananas and ate a few of them. He is left with 5 bananas. How many bananas did he eat?
Calculation: 12 - 5 = 7
Answer: He ate 7 bananas.

Q1. Radhika had 15 balloons. 4 of them burst. How many balloons are left with her?
Answer: 15 - 4 = 11 balloons.
Q2. There are 10 apples in one basket and 7 oranges in another basket. How many fruits are there in total?
Answer: 10 + 7 = 17 fruits.
Q3. Solve mentally: 12 + 5 - 3
Answer: 12 + 5 = 17. Then, 17 - 3 = 14.
