1 Let us Read & Let us Talk - The Mango Story (Pages 18-19)
A story about a squirrel eating a mango. One by one, different birds (crow, parrot, pigeon, etc.) join to eat the mango. With each new bird, the number increases by one: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8... until 9 birds and animals are eating the mango!
A. Identify the birds in the picture.
Answer: The birds in the pictures include a crow, a parrot, a pigeon, a sparrow, and other small birds. (There is also a squirrel and a cat).
B. How many animals or birds were eating the mango in the beginning?
Answer: In the beginning, only 1 animal (the squirrel) was eating the mango.
C. How many more animals or birds joined every time?
Answer: 1 more joined every time.
D. What is 1 more than 1, 1 more than 2... up to 9?
Answer:
- 1 more than 1 is 2
- 1 more than 2 is 3
- 1 more than 3 is 4
- 1 more than 4 is 5
- 1 more than 5 is 6

2 Matching Numbers, Fingers, and Dots (Pages 20-21)
Page 20: Match the number of birds with the number of fingers.
Answers for matching:
- Match the branch with 3 birds to the hand showing 3 fingers.
- Match the branch with 4 birds to the hand showing 4 fingers.
- Match the branch with 6 birds to the hands showing 6 fingers (5 on one hand, 1 on the other).

3 More, Less, or Equal (Pages 23-24)
Page 23: Help them to know if they have enough material. Tick more, less, or equal.
Activity Answer: Count the number of children (there are 5 children in the picture). Then count the objects given to them.
- If there are 6 paintbrushes and 5 children, tick More than the number of children.
- If there are 4 palettes and 5 children, tick Less than the number of children.
- If there are 5 drawing boards and 5 children, tick Same as the number of children.
Page 24: Let us Do - Tick (✓)
A. Tick the one which is more in number.
Answer: Count the apples. There are 4 apples in the top row and 2 apples in the bottom row. Tick the group of 4 apples.
B. Tick the one which is less in number.
Answer: Look at the bunches of bananas. One bunch has more bananas, the other has fewer. Tick the bunch with fewer bananas (less).
C. Tick the one which is less in number.
Answer: Look at the stacks of chapatis/puris. Tick the stack that is shorter (has fewer chapatis).
4 Numbers 1, 2, 3... Go! - Finding Quantities (Pages 25-27)
Look at the large picture of the lake, boats, and fair, then follow the instructions to draw shapes around objects of a specific quantity.
A. Objects which are ONE in number (1):
Answer: Draw a triangle (△) around the Sun or the large flying bird. Write '1'.
B. Objects which are TWO in number (2):
Answer: Draw a square (□) around the two snails or the two boats (shikaras). Write '2'.
C. Objects which are THREE in number (3):
Answer: Draw a circle (◯) around the three houses or the three lotus flowers. Write '3'.
D. Objects which are FOUR in number (4):
Answer: Draw a triangle (△) around the four fishes in the water. Write '4'.
