1 Look Around - Poem (Page 10)

"What is long? What is round? Look around, look around.
My pencil box is long and my ball is round.
My legs are long and my face is round..."

✅ Teaching Note / Activity Idea:

Play this game in class. Have children sit in a circle and take turns naming one long thing and one round thing (without repeating!).

Note: Discuss how an object might be both! For example, a water tumbler is long (tall) when standing up, but its top/bottom is round, and it can roll on its side. Both views are correct!

2 Think and Do - Drawing (Page 11)

A. Draw round objects in the circle (◯) and long objects in the rectangle (▭).

Examples of what children can draw:

In the Circle (Round Objects):

A chapati or puri

In the Rectangle (Long Objects):

4 Wise Grandmother Story (Pages 14-15)

In this story, a grandmother saves a little lamb from a wolf by hiding the lamb inside a dholak and rolling it down the hill.

Question: Why did the dholak roll?

Answer: The dholak rolled for two reasons:

Shape: A dholak has curved, round sides (like a cylinder) which allows it to roll.
Surface: The path from the jungle to the lamb's house was sloping (a downward hill), which pushed the round shape to roll very fast!

5 Let us Slide - Rolling vs Sliding (Page 16)

🎮 Teaching Concept:

Objects with flat surfaces slide (like a box or a book). Objects with curved surfaces roll (like a ball). When children play carrom, the flat striker slides. But if stood on its curved edge, it might roll!

A. Write 'R' for rolling objects and 'S' for sliding objects given in the playground picture.

Answers based on the picture:

Football: Write 'R' (It is round and it rolls).
Child on the slide: Write 'S' (Children slide down flat on the slide).
Cardboard Box: Write 'S' (It has flat faces, so it slides).
Log of wood: Write 'R' (It is cylindrical and rolls down).
Tin Can (being pushed): Write 'R' (If pushed on its curved side) or 'S' (If pushed on its flat bottom).
