How is Sentence Structure tested in WBPSC Clerkship Part-I?
The official syllabus lists "Fundamentals of the English language, including vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms, and correct usage." Part-I English carries 30 marks. Sentence classification, transformation and clause identification are frequently tested.
How do I quickly identify a Complex Sentence?
Look for a subordinating conjunction (because, after, before, although, if, when, where, which, that, who, so that). If one principal clause + at least one subordinate clause exist, it is a Complex Sentence. A Simple Sentence has one finite verb; a Compound Sentence joins two independent clauses with coordinating conjunctions (and, but, or, so, yet).
What is the standard order for word reordering (PQRS) questions?
Follow the hierarchy: Subject → Auxiliary Verb → Main Verb → Indirect Object → Direct Object → Adverbial of Place → Adverbial of Time. Identify the subject first — this usually locks down the starting segment.
